Mother must be one of the most potent words in any language . That makes perfect sense because all of us, no matter what gender, race,or religion come from mother. It’s just how it is in our species. If we minimize the mother then maybe we minimize ourselves. All Hail Mum!!

Mothering is one of those jobs that you sign up to without really reading the whole job description. Often the specific skill set required can just be ignored. If mothers knew everything maybe more than a few just wouldn’t turn up for the interview. If they knew the hours and the payscale they would never fill in the application form!

It’s a tough, tough job physically but that ain’t nothin’ compared to the emotional demands. And those change from year to year, sometimes from day to day. In the teenage years you’d be lucky to experience two hours the same on any given day🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Stamina ,temper control (yours not theirs!)and lots of red wine are necessities.Cake also helps.

And success is marked how? Well this is most neatly put by Kahil Gibran in his epic tome “The Prophet”.

Your children are not your children….

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

which you cannot visit ,not even in your dreams…….

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth

Happy Thoughts, after all that blood sweat and tears .In simple terms if a mother gets it right the child walks away. But well-loved and well-nutured children come back at least one day a year……

on Mothering Sunday and say Thanks Mum, Love Ya❤❤❤
